Currant is a rounded, compact shrub with a nice green foliage. It makes a nice small hedge or informal shrub border. Reddish black berries appear in the summer attracting nearby wildlife. Ribes aureum is our native buffalo currant and has fragrant yellow flowers. Ribes apinum is one of the most commonly planted species of currant due to its compact growth habit.
