Yes there is a difference in quality of sod. The soil where the sod is grown in can be very sandy. The sandy soil does not retain moisture and is much harder to get established. There are also different types of seed used. Most people however, use Kentucky Blue Grass. Which nearly all of the sod vendors use a blend that is mostly Blue Grass however, has other grass seeds so that the sod adapts to the environment.
